Who We Are
Sokol Committees
Sokol is run by volunteers who meet as the Board of Directors and as Sokol committees. Some committees are created in Sokol’s Bylaws and others are created by the Board of Directors as needed. Committees get direction and authority from the Board and make reports to the Board as needed.
THE BUILDING AND PROPERTY TRUSTEES COMMITTEE
Responsibilities
This committee is responsible for administration of all real property owned by Sokol. Trustees coordinate with the Planning Committee on the priority and timing of property improvement projects. The committee is responsible for health and safety procedures, protocols, and all relevant regulations and best practices. Leases, mortgage notes, and other instruments pertaining to Sokol’s real property must be signed by the Chair of the Sokol Building and Property Trustees Committee and the President of Sokol.
Members
The Building and Property Trustees Chair is elected by the Sokol membership as a member of the Board of Directors. Six other members are elected by the Sokol membership, two each year or as needed to fill mid-term vacancies, for a total of seven members.
THE BUDGET AND FINANCE COMMITTEE
Responsibilities
This Committee is responsible for developing and reviewing the fiscal procedures and financial plans of the organization. After consulting with Board of Directors members, the Budget and Finance Committee is responsible for developing the annual budget of Sokol for approval by the Board. In addition, annual reports are required to be submitted to the Board of Directors showing income, expenditures, and pending income. Contracts other than leases, mortgage notes, and other instruments pertaining to Sokol’s real property must be signed by the Chair of the Budget and Finance Committee and the President of Sokol.
Members
The Budget and Finance Chair is elected by the Sokol membership as a member of the Board of Directors. The Treasurer is also automatically on this committee. Four other members are elected by the Sokol membership, two each year or as needed to fill mid-term vacancies, for a total of six members.
THE GAMING COMMITTEE
Responsibilities
This Committee is responsible for administration of Sokol’s charitable gaming activity. The committee must oversee gaming operations and financial affairs in accordance with state law. Either the Gaming Chair or a member of the Gaming Committee must meet requirements for a Gambling Manager in Minnesota Statutes, Chapter 349. All gaming revenue must be reported to the Board on a regular basis. Budgets for expenditure and transfer of gaming revenue for Sokol operations must be approved by the Board of Directors in advance.
Members
The Gaming Chair is elected by the Sokol membership as a member of the Board of Directors. Four other members are elected by the Sokol membership, two each year or as needed to fill mid-term vacancies, for a total of five members.
THE BOARD OF INSTRUCTORS
Responsibilities
The Board of Instructors is responsible for administration of the girls’ and boys’ gymnastics programs in accordance with the principles and practices of the American Sokol Organization. The Board of Instructors may hire instructors as needed to administer the girls’ and boys’ gymnastics programs.
Members
The Board of Instructors consists, at a minimum, of its two co-chairs: the Women’s and Men’s Physical Directors. The Women’s and Men’s Physical Directors are elected by the Sokol membership as members of the Board of Directors. Other members may be appointed by the Women’s and Men’s Physical Directors.
THE PLANNING COMMITTEE
Responsibilities
This committee is responsible for long-term planning and cost estimates for the upgrading or enhancement of all real property owned by Sokol. The committee recommends property upgrade projects and associated funding to the Board of Directors. The committee coordinates with the Building and Property Trustees Committee, which provides detailed planning and work supervision of the projects.
Members
The Planning Chair must be a member of the Board of Directors elected by the Sokol membership but may be the Vice President or another member of the Board as appointed by the President. The Budget and Finance Chair and the Building and Property Trustees Committee Chair are also automatic members of this committee. Two other members are appointed by the Planning Committee Chair, one each year or as needed to fill mid-term vacancies, for a total of five members.
THE RENTAL COMMITTEE
Responsibilities
This committee is responsible for administration of the rental of the C.S.P.S. Hall. The committee maintains a standard set of rental policies, regulations, rates, contracts, and insurance. State of Minnesota health guidelines must be followed. The committee maintains an Event Coordinator job description and may hire an Event Coordinator to administer the rental of the Hall. The Event Coordinator must maintain a Certified Kitchen Manager License. All rental-related revenue must be submitted to the Treasurer for deposit into the appropriate Sokol account. All rental-related expenditures must be approved by the Board of Directors in advance.
Members
The Rental Committee consists, at a minimum, of three Sokol members. The Rental Chair must be a member of the Board of Directors elected by the Sokol membership but may be any member of the Board as appointed by the President. Two other members are appointed by the Rental Committee Chair, one each year or as needed to fill mid-term vacancies, for a total of five members.
THE MEMBERSHIP COMMITTEE
Responsibilities
This committee promotes membership and associated benefits.
Members
The Membership Director chairs this committee and is elected by the Sokol membership as a member of the Board of Directors. Other members are appointed by the President as needed. This committee meets at the discretion of its chair.
THE ACTIVITIES COMMITTEE
Responsibilities
This committee coordinates activities and maintains the C.S.P.S. Hall calendar.
Members
The Activities Director chairs this committee and is elected by the Sokol membership as a member of the Board of Directors. Other members are appointed by the President as needed. This committee meets at the discretion of its chair.
THE EDUCATION COMMITTEE
Responsibilities
This committee develops and manages the educational activities of Sokol.
Members
The Education Director chairs this committee and is elected by the Sokol membership as a member of the Board of Directors. Other members are appointed by the President as needed. This committee meets at the discretion of its chair.
THE PUBLICITY COMMITTEE
Responsibilities
This committee develops and communicate information on Sokol activities and events.
Members
The Publicity Director chairs this committee and is elected by the Sokol membership as a member of the Board of Directors. Other members are appointed by the President as needed. This committee meets at the discretion of its chair.
OTHER COMMITTEES
Other committees may be created by the Board of Directors or the President as needed. Chairs and members of these committees are appointed by the President.
