Uniting the Czech, Slovak, and Polish Communities through Literature: A Gathering with Mariusz Szczygiel
Saturday, April 27, 4 p.m. with social time following
Mariusz Szczygiel is a Polish journalist, columnist, non-fiction writer, and Czechofile. His writing has been described as a combination of personal diary, essay, and reportage. He is the author of ten books and the editor-in-chief of a comprehensive anthology of 20th-century Polish reportage. His works have been translated into numerous languages and published in 21 countries. Gottland, his book about Czechoslovakia, was awarded the European Book Prize in 2009. Since 1990, he has been associated with the Polish daily newspaper, “Gazeta Wyborcza.” He lives in Warsaw and states that his soul lives in Prague. He speaks fluent Czech. English interpretation will be provided.
The gathering is intended to promote Czech, Slovak, and Polish culture and to inspire Minnesota readers to learn more about what unites them.
